Surfers Paradise Kids Week is our favourite time of the year. We have been going to Surfers Paradise Kids Week for two years consecutively now. This year’s attraction will be Jurassic Park themed. The children still cannot believe the dinosaurs are coming to the Gold Coast!
This year’s free event is a live dinosaur experience which allows you to get up close and personal with some of the rock stars of the Jurassic period. There will be interactive dinosaur training performances so the children can learn some interesting facts and be thrown into the thick of the action. Get ready because the Park Rangers may just call you for assistance. We do look forward to meeting dinosaurs and their handlers. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we will see a T-Rex terrifying the holiday makers and locals alike.
Daily live shows will be showcased at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm on Surfers Paradise beach, with life-like T-Rex and Velociraptor Dinosaurs and character meet and greets.
September school holidays in 2016 was when we attended our first Surfers Paradise Kids Week. The main attraction at Surfers Paradise Kids Week 2016 was Paw Patrol, which was perfect for our then 2 year old. We also watched the animal introduction by Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Park, and a magic show kept the children entertained.
For 2017’s Surfers Paradise Kids Week, the main event was the Minions in Despicable Me on the main beaches of Surfers Paradise. Our children loved the Daily Dance Party and Character Meet and Greets.
In 2016, we queued up, or rather I queued up, more than 30 minutes for the children’s turn to snap a memorable meet and greet photo with the Paw Patrol team – Ryder, Marshall and Chase. Last year, we waited as long as last year’s queue. The only tip we had going into this year’s madness, to reduce the queue time, is to position ourselves really close to the front of the line since we already knew where the line would be from last years.
One other tip for the rest of the family is to be prepared with a plastic bag or carry bag because last year, during the intervals, the children could not help themselves but plonk their whole bodies into the sandy beaches as the event tent is right on the beach. A plastic bag will be really handy for you to pack the sandy and soaked through sandals.
Seal Guardians to the Rescue is a new addition to Surfers Paradise Kids Week, sponsored by one of our favourite theme parks, Sea World.
Tell the children Professor Swells from Sea World’s Seal Guardians has come to Surfers Paradise and finds a Turtle entangled in discarded fishing gear. He needs expert help and knows that Sea World’s Research & Rescue Team is the best in the business!
Get the children ready and with the help of the kids in the audience, Professor Swells and a Sea World Research & Rescue Team Member rescue the turtle. Learn about recycling and preventing rubbish ending up in our oceans with some fun activities for the kids.
The friendly and well known mascot of Currumbin Wildlife, Blinky Bill the Koala is heading to Surfers Paradise with some of his best mates from the Wildlife Sanctuary to entertain and make new friends. This is a must see event for the kids, but also appealing for the whole family.
There are workshops for kids, beach games on the iconic Surfers Paradise Foreshore, plus jumping castles, zorb balls, rock climbing, face painting, treasure hunts and many more activities!

The best place to stay during Surfers Paradise Kids Week is at one of Holiday Holiday’s amazing Gold Coast accommodation options. Choose from a selection of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom Gold Coast holiday apartments in Surfers Paradise resorts. All Holiday Holiday Gold Coast holiday rentals options are located within walking distance to the foreshore of Surfers Paradise beach.
For the last two years, we have stayed at one of Holiday Holiday’s self contained apartment in Circle on Cavill building. The best thing is that we get to take our time to share the memories of Surfers Paradise Kids Week with our children. We plan to make Surfers Paradise Kids Week an annual event with our children. Conveniently, each year that we attend the Surfers Paradise Kids Week, our accommodation booking includes a free car parking in Surfers Paradise with Holiday Holiday.
This year, we have a new favourite Gold Coast holiday rental option with Holiday Holiday, a 2 bedroom apartment in the Chevron Renaissance building. Conveniently located above Coles supermarket in Surfers Paradise, and with the most amazing facilities in the resort such as Beaches in the Sky, we look forward to with the family. For a special something this year, we have booked the kids room package, which includes soft toys, children’s table and chairs, blocks, plastic cutleries, etc to keep the children entertained and away from electronics.
We have also planned selection of things to do near Surfers Paradise during Kids Week. One of the highlight of the week, apart from Surfers Paradise Kids Week will be to take the children to Seaworld animal adventure with dolphins.
Dinosaurs, here we come!
