World Triathlon Grand Final Gold Coast 2018

Gold Coast is hosting the 2018 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Gold Coast between 12-16 September 2018. More than 5,000 of the world’s best elite and age group triathletes will be heading to the Gold Coast for the final race of the 2018 season.

Athletes from 46 nations will be competing at Southport Broadwater Parklands, the site of the highly successful ITU World Triathlon Gold Coast and home to the 2009 ITU World Championships.

Athletes will be competing in categories of Elite, Under 23, Junior and Elite Paratriathlon as well as the U23/Jnr Mixed Team Relay and Age Group – Standard and Sprint Distance.

Where:

Broadwater Parklands at Southport will serve as the event venue for World Triathlon Grand Final Gold Coast 2018 and has all the facilities necessary to support world class sporting and cultural events.

What does it cost:

The ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Gold Coast 2018 is a free event for spectators. There is no entry fee into the venue or grandstands, and you can watch the races from several strategic and picturesque spots on the Gold Coast.

The main venue where all the action will take place is at Mitchell Park, Broadwater Parklands. At Mitchell Park you can locate:

Parade of Nations and Official Welcome

The opening ceremony on Wednesday 12 September 2018 will feature the Parade of Nations. All Athletes will be parading within their National Federation into the venue.

Wednesday 12 September 2018

Gold Coast Open Aquathlon will start from 1 to 3.30pm. All the action can be viewed from the Venue at Mitchell Park. The swim course, run course and finish line will take place within the venue. Spectators can cheer the athletes out on course and the best place to do so is at Cafe Catalina located just past the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

Spectators viewing tips:

Best viewing location for swimming is from Mitchell Park. View the whole Swim Course from the Gear Tent.

Best viewing location for the bike event is to along Gold Coast Hwy or Marine Parade to catch the athletes out on the Bike Course.

Best viewing location for the running event is on the corner of Marine Parade and Gold Coast Hwy to see the athletes turn around on Gold Coast Hwy and then pass again as they come around the corner on Marine Pde.

Closing Party

The Official Closing Party for World Triathlon Grand Final Gold Coast 2018 is open to all athletes, friends, family and spectators and will include the AG Standard Distance Triathlon awards. The closing party is a free event to celebrate the achievements of the athletes.

Standard Distance Awards Time: 6:30pm – 7:00pm

How to get there

The best way to get to the event is to take the tram. The Gold Coast has a great tram (G:link) service which goes from Helensvale to Broadbeach. Southport Station is 1.2km (15min walk) to the Venue – Mitchell Park, Southport.

Parking

Parking is limited but try Australia Fair Shopping Centre and the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre for some paid parking.

Limited street parking is available along the biking and running event along Gold Coast Highway and Marine Parade.
