Chinese New Year 2020 is coming early this year with the year of the rat. Chinese New Year 2020 falls on 25th January 2020 this year. #1: Chinese New Year Lunar Eve Laneway Party

On Friday 31 January, Davison Lane in Gold Coast’s Chinatown will play host to a Lunar Eve Laneway Party (4pm to 8pm) as a teaser/pre-party to the main event on Saturday night. This intimate event will featuring a pop-up cocktail bar and live entertainment for those wishing to enjoy after work drinks, a Lunar party atmosphere and local authentic restaurants before Saturday’s premier family celebrations.

The festivities will begin at 4pm on Friday 31st January 2020 at Gold Coast Chinatown, Young and Davenport Streets, Southport. For the most authentic experience, make sure you wear red clothes like the Chinese do to signify prosperity.

#2: 2020 Lunar New Year Celebrations

#3: Chop Chop at Cavill Lane

Chop Chop at Cavill Lane will be putting on a three day extravaganza from 31 January to 2 February 2020, filling the alleyways of Chop Chop with live entertainment, workshops, family-fun activities, performers and giveaways.

For the adults CHOP CHOP is holding sushi making classes where locals can get immersed in the Japanese culture, even making their own mayonnaise, as well as holding free tea leaf readings to predict the fortunes of even the biggest sceptics and have created a Soju tasting exclusively for the weekend to display the popular cultural drink.

For the family the precinct will have kids activities on the weekend, a fortune forest were you can pick your fortune and every evening from 5pm – 8pm the precinct with culminate with acrobats, musicians, lion dancer, face painters.

#4: Carrara Market’s Chinese Night Parades

Celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Night Markets at Carrara Markets with two spectacular Chinese Night Parades – Friday 31st January from 6.30pm and Saturday 1st February from 6.30pm. Bring the kids to see the magnificent dance troupe of Chinese lions and dragons as they rove throughout the Night Markets.

#5: Lunar New Year at Pacific Fair

Celebrate the Year of the Rat with traditional Chinese Lion Dance performances at Pacific Fair. These colourful performances are believed to bring good luck and fortune to people, homes and businesses for the start of the new year.
