This will be the 15th edition of the Sudirman Cup with past winners from China, Indonesia, and South Korea. Sudirman Cup is the world’s mixed team badminton championship and while there is no prize money, this is one of the rare events where players play for their respective countries, and earn Badminton World Federation (BWF) world ranking points and national prestige.
Sudirman Cup takes place every two years and it consists of five matches in every round: men and womens’s singles, men and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Sudirman cup is named after Dick Sudirman, a former Indonesian badminton player and the founder of the Badminton Association of Indonesia.
Sudirman Cup 2017 will be held at Carrara Sports Stadium on the Gold Coast. Sudirman Cup 2017 is the first time hosted outside Asia and Europe since its establishment in 1989.
