Spring has arrived on the Gold Coast, and so have the school holidays.

If you are spending the September school holidays on the Gold Coast, there is plenty happening to keep the whole family entertained.

From getting creative and meeting Australian wildlife to theme park adventures, footy fun and an unforgettable encounter with dolphins, we have picked five experiences to add to your family holiday list.

1. Let the Kids Take Over at HOTA

Until 26 September | HOTA, Bundall

Let the kids take the lead at HOTA’s Kids Take Over, a school holiday program filled with performances, hands on workshops and creative experiences designed especially for young imaginations.

It is a great change of pace from the beach and theme parks, particularly for children who love making, creating and discovering something new.

HOTA is also close to Surfers Paradise, making it an easy half day outing without having to plan an entire day around it.

Holiday Holiday tip: Take a look at the program before you go. Some activities are free, while selected workshops and performances require tickets or advance bookings.

2. Have a Country Day at Dreamworld

Until 5 October | Dreamworld, Coomera

The Dreamworld Country Fair is bringing a little country fun to the Gold Coast these school holidays.

Alongside Dreamworld’s rides, wildlife and family attractions, expect country themed entertainment, line dancing, tractor displays, scavenger hunts and plenty of activities to keep the kids busy.

It is an easy choice when you have children of different ages because everyone can find something to enjoy, from little adventurers through to thrill seeking teenagers.

Holiday Holiday tip: Make a full day of it. Have breakfast in your apartment before heading out, pack the essentials and come home to an easy dinner after a big day of rides and adventures.

3. Go Wild at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

22 September to 2 October | Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

For young animal lovers, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is offering special school holiday programs focused on wildlife, nature and conservation.

Children can get closer to the natural world through educational wildlife experiences, including the Junior Sanctuary Rangers program for children aged 5 to 8.

Families can also spend the day exploring the wider sanctuary, meeting Australian wildlife and learning more about the important work that goes into caring for and protecting our native animals.

Holiday Holiday tip: Make a day of the journey south. After exploring the sanctuary, stop by beautiful Currumbin Beach before heading back to Surfers Paradise.

4. Train Like a Titan

1 October | Robina

Have a young rugby league fan in the family?

The Gold Coast Titans School Holiday Experience powered by Motiv8sports gives kids the chance to step into the world of the Titans for a day of footy, challenges, competition and fun.

It is a great way to get the kids moving during the holidays while also giving visiting families a taste of the Gold Coast’s local sporting culture.

Holiday Holiday tip: Places may be limited, so check availability and booking requirements before making the trip to Robina.

5. Dive into a Dolphin Adventure at Sea World

Sea World | Main Beach

Looking for something extra special to remember from your Gold Coast holiday?

Sea World’s Dolphin Deep Water Adventure takes guests beyond watching from the shore and into the water for an up close experience with dolphins.

Under the guidance of Sea World’s Marine Mammal Specialists, participants learn more about these incredible animals during an approximately 45 minute in water adventure.

The experience is suitable for children aged 9 years and over who meet the height and swimming requirements, making it particularly exciting for families travelling with older children or teenagers.

Holiday Holiday tip: This is a premium experience and Sea World admission is additional, so book ahead and check the participation requirements before planning your day.
